Aka my recent obsession…
It’s been almost three weeks since I posted! Yikes 😂
If I’m completely honest I wasn’t certain what to post, but I think you should blog what you love, so here it is!!
You may of heard of Gregory’s books from the film ‘the other Boleyn girl’ (which was a much better book, as everything is😂) but she has a whole series for the tudors, as well as for there predecessors, and many other books, but we are talking about the former, rather than the latter.
‘The cousins war’ series consists of 6 books. Gregory didn’t write them in order, I don’t believe, but if you were to read them in order, it would be;
Lady of the rivers: this book follows the story of Jaquetta Rivers, the mother of Elizabeth. She famously married her former husbands squire after his death. I have almost finished this book, and it also shows off Jaquetta and Margret of Anjou’s friendship, and the secrets of the court of the sleeping king, Henry vi.
This is A very compelling book, to say the least!
The white queen: The white queen is a tv series as well as a book,and most likely the most popular book in this series. Elizabeth Woodville waits by a tree to get her dowry lands back for her sons, and the story unwinds from there on. I plan on re reading this one as I am watching the tv series at the moment.
The red queen: Really you can read the red queen then the white queen or vice versa, but either way they are both good. Margret Beaufort, who technically isn’t a queen, but has the will power of one, wants to be a nun, but is made to marry Edmund Tudor. Out of all of Gregory’s books I have read, Margret wad the first main character that I wasn’t extremely keen on, but was compelled to.
The kingmakers daughter: I’ll be honest, I haven’t read this one yet, but it is the book I am about to read. Anne Neville marries Richard III, however she actually married Margret of Anjous son before that, but he soon after dies at a battle. Anne is put in a court where The Queen looks down on here, and her Guardian, Duke George of Clarence and his wife, Anne’s sister keep her captive to secure her dowry. In the white queen tv series, Anne is one of my Favourite characters because of her courage when she is held against her will, and forced to marry Henry.
The white princess: Elizabeth of York had a big task; Marrying her enemy, king Henry vii, to bring peace to the country that had been at civil war for decades. Many rumours circulate that she was in love with her uncle, Richard III. Yet again, I haven’t read this one either. Elizabeth had to live with her husbands mother, who hated her, and the need for an heir to consummate this match for peace and prosperity.
The kings curse: the kings curse is an edge between the Tudors and the Plantagenets. Margret Pole, countess of Salisbury, who looks after Kathrine of Aragon, and guides her and her daughter, Mary Tudor. Lady Salisbury is an interesting character, as you don’t watch her grow up, she is 26 as the book opens, so unlike the red queen or the The Lady of the Rivers.
So that’s it! If u would like a post on Gregory’s Tudor court books, let me know! I really guarantee you read these books, as they are brilliant! Thanks for reading! 🙂
